Remediation of Substances in a Leachate Collection System Through Chemical Cleaning
Kansas City Convention Center - Room 2102 AB

Beginning just a few years ago an unknown product began plugging leachate collection systems and landfill gas wells. This has proven to be a difficult and broadly occurring problem. What was thought an isolated problem has appeared from coast to coast. Whether we call it Goo, Flubber, whatever, it is becoming a more prevailing problem not only in different landfills but appears to be moving across cells in the same landfill. This Presentation will discuss hypothesis for how we’;re getting Goo, and what to do about it. Also addressed will be ways to prevent Goo from forming and plugging pumping systems.
