Join us for a round of disc golf at The Paseo Vista Rec Disc Golf Course, a former landfill that is now a highly rated disc golf course.

Participants of all skill levels are welcome to attend. The event will begin with a disc golf lesson from a representative from Innova Champion Discs, the largest disc golf manufacturer in the world.

Playing from the “short tees” should offer plenty of reachable holes, even for less experienced players. Disc golf is very flexible and will be a really fun and informative experience for any participants joining us!

All participants will receive:

  • A disc golf disc made of at least 50 percent pre-consumer recycled materials
  • An introductory lesson on how to disc golf
  • The opportunity to play a round of disc golf at the 18-hole disc golf course
  • The opportunity to learn how:
    • Several landfills have disc golf courses on them, including the busiest disc golf course in the USA (Morely Field/Arizona Street Landfill).
    • To implement a disc golf course at a landfill.
    • A disc golf course on a landfill can help it:
      • Improve its relationship with the local community by providing a source of recreation that is great for all ages
      • Gain a revenue source:
        • Players pay to play on good disc golf courses.
        • This can be a source of revenue for post-closure facilities.
        • A small course can be put in for less than $10K.

About the landfill-turned-disc golf course:

The Paseo Vista Rec Disc Golf Course is part of a multi-use park on a former landfill site. The landfill opened in 1981 and was closed in October 2005. Participants will be playing on top of 64 acres containing 2.2 million tons of compacted trash measuring 38 feet deep. The City spent approximately $12.8 million on the project to create this park.

Course highlights:

  • 11 holes have dual tee pads and one hole has two baskets.
  • Mostly wide open with some out of bounds areas.
  • Features two concrete culvert mandatories through large pipe structures.
  • Multiple berms and a couple of blind tee shots. Good length, variety, and decent elevation changes.
  • Each hole has a marker pointing to the next tee.
  • The park also includes a practice basket, playground, restrooms, water, an archery area, and a dog park.

Discs, snacks, and drinks will be provided.

Dress code requirements: Comfortable clothing and athletic shoes or hiking boots. Please wear sunscreen and consider sunglasses and a hat.
