Cameron Garcia is a Solid Waste Diversion Analyst for the Pitkin County Solid Waste Center where he manages the Construction & Demolition Debris Recovery Program. This innovative program requires contractors to manage and divert and recycle materials such as concrete, scrap metal, and wood debris from county permitted demolition and building projects.
Cameron graduated from Colorado Mesa University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Restoration and Waste Management and from the University of Colorado-Denver with a Master in Public Administration - Environmental Policy. He is a Registered Environmental Manager with the National Registry of Environmental Professionals and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager through the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management.
Cameron has more than 30 years of experience working in the public and private waste management sector. He worked for the Mesa County Solid Waste Management Department in Grand Junction, Colorado, for 16 years including 5 years as its Director managing the 200 ton/day RCRA Subtitle D landfill, 4 regional waste transfer stations, recycle center, and permanent hazardous waste collection and composting facilities.
Cameron was appointed in 2013 by former Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper and subsequently confirmed by the Colorado Senate to serve as a state Commissioner on the Solid and Hazardous Waste Committee. During his 4-year tenure on the commission major revisions to the state asbestos, waste tire and pharmaceutical waste management regulations were approved.
