How PFAS can affect Waste Management from Planning via Design to Operations (CEU: .5)
2:25 PM - 2:50 PM (EDT)

The Fate of PFAS in Landfills: Research and observations indicate that landfills have the ability to sequester PFAS from discarded products. On an annual basis more PFAS is landfilled than released to the environment with leachate, the primary pathway, landfill gas, and fugitive emissions. This session will work through the PFAS, their composition, where they're found, and how they move through landfills. With more detailed and site-specific information it will be possible to identify outliers and develop a more nuanced understanding of PFAS dynamics at landfills. In the meantime, owners and operators require information how regulation could affect landfill operation and possible capital investments.
