CHaRM

Atlanta’s first permanent facility for the recycling of materials too harmful to place at the curb, Live Thrive’s CHaRM – the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials – encourages reuse while diverting thousands of tons of household hazardous waste and other hard-to-recycle items from local homes, water supplies and landfills. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly three months of closure, CHaRM’s intake increased during 2020 and 2021. In 2021 alone, the center reused, recycled or reengineered more than 31 tons of Styrofoam, 274 tons of chemicals, 251 tons of glass, 1,727 mattresses and much more for a total of 4.3 million pounds of materials.

Lifecycle

Lifecycle Building Center's mission centers on keeping usable construction materials out of landfills and redirecting them back into the community through reuse. Since 2011, LBC has prevented the disposal of 11 million pounds of building materials and generated over $4.8M in community savings by: 1) providing income-restricted homeowners near LBC's Reuse Center access to these materials at an affordable cost and 2) donating free materials to nonprofits, schools and churches across metro Atlanta, with 377 material grants awarded to 246 nonprofits to date through its Nonprofit Material MATCH program.

LBC’s MATCH program is currently expanding its work with affordable housing nonprofits in order to support their efforts to increase the number of high-quality, affordable homes available in low-wealth communities near LBC. LBC also works with its many community partners to provide workforce training in deconstruction as well as free educational classes in home performance and basic carpentry skills.

re:Loom

re:loom employs and empowers homeless and low-income individuals through weaving beautiful one-of-a-kind products out of donated clothes and fabric. Our facility serves as a donation receiving and sorting center, a space for volunteers to contribute to the preparation of weaving materials, a production floor for weaving and sewing activities, and a retail sale space for finished re:loom products.
