The EPA has introduced a new pathway to the Renewable Fuel Standards (RFS) program, called eRINs. The eRIN pathway offers a promising opportunity for landfills to generate electricity from landfill gas that can be sold to the grid and counted towards electric vehicle charging. However, the eRIN registration process with the EPA can be time-consuming and complex, and sites may only be immediately viable for grid interconnection with substantial additional infrastructure.
