SWANA seeks compelling speakers to inform, inspire, and energize our audiences.

If you have a timely, important topic to share at WASTECON® 2024, we want to hear from you.

Educating solid waste and resource management professionals about the innovative technologies, best-in-class practices, and emerging trends that are transforming the solid waste industry is SWANA’s highest priority. As an industry leader, your expertise and insights are invaluable in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing waste management today. SWANA invites you to contribute to the dialogue shaping the future of solid waste management through the WASTECON 2024 Call for Proposals.

We’re Listening

SWANA members asked for more technical education from WASTECON and we heard you! This year’s program includes leadership-focused sessions and even more technical education.

We welcome proposals on industry trends and priorities, many of which cut across multiple specialty areas. Topics may include:

  • Personnel – Recruitment, hiring, and retention strategies and programs
  • Safety – Developing and practicing a culture of safety
  • Extended Producer Responsibility
  • Circular Economy
  • Artificial Intelligence – Applications of AI across the industry
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies
  • Managing fire risks from Lithium-ion batteries and other operational threats
  • Organic and food waste management strategies
  • PFAS detection and management  
  • ESG – Environmental, social, and governance programs, including Environmental Justice considerations
  • Electric and other alternative fuel vehicles for collection
  • Renewable Natural Gas, Waste to Fuels, Waste-to-Energy Strategies
  • New Technologies – Drones, satellites, thermal imaging, odor control, and more

Submit a Winning Proposal

Priority is given to sessions that:

  • Provide fresh content that has not been presented elsewhere
  • Disrupt participants’ thinking and offer practical insights and solutions to apply to their work
  • Engage participants in the learning process through interactive activities that prompt reflection, problem-solving, and integration of lessons learned with real-world situations
  • Include confirmed presenters or panelists only, i.e., proposals should not list speakers who have not confirmed their participation

Proposals must be submitted by June 21, 2024, 11:59 PM ET for consideration. The proposal submission system allows you to save a draft and edit it until the proposal submission deadline. All proposals are peer reviewed by subject matter experts and SWANA staff.
