Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the USA. There are more disc golf courses in the USA than Dunkin’ Donuts locations (9,465 vs. 8,500), but there are still only four baskets in all of Boston, MA—this course has those four baskets!

Learn how your landfill can do the following by implementing a disc golf course at your landfill:

• Improve its relationship with the local community by a source of recreation that is great for all ages
• Gain a revenue source:
  • Players pay to play on good disc golf courses.
  • This can be a source of revenue for post-closure facilities.
  • A small course can be put in for less than $10K.

The event will be held at Ace Shores At Harbor Point disc golf course. The course and its surroundings on Columbia Point were constructed on top of an old landfill known as the “Mile Road Landfill”. The landfill was closed around 1962. The peninsula area around the course was developed in the 1970s. Development work has continued in the area since then.

Attendees will get:

• A disc golf disc made of 50 percent pre-consumer recycled materials
• An introductory lesson on how to disc golf—a representative from the largest disc golf manufacturer in the world, Innova Champion Discs, will be on hand to help.
• The opportunity to play a round of disc golf at the nine-hole disc golf course
• The opportunity to learn how:
  • Several landfills have disc golf courses on them, including the busiest disc golf course in the USA (Morely Field/Arizona Street Landfill).
  • They may be able to implement a disc golf course at their landfill.

This Disc Golf experience is capped at 17 registrants. Please note that there is a non-refundable $10 registration fee for this tour.
