Quick Tips for First-Timers
If it’s your first time attending WASTECON, welcome – we’re so glad you’re here! But we also realize it can be daunting to tackle this summit as a newbie. That’s why SWANA has tried to make it quick and easy for first timers to adjust and thrive onsite. Here are few suggestions:
Spot Other First-Timers
Find other first time attendees with the “first-timer” pin on their badge. Make sure to grab your pin and welcome bag from the SWANA lounge during exhibit hall hours.
Plan to Network
Don’t be afraid to talk to strangers. After all, everyone is here to make the most of their time onsite and grow their professional network. The welcome reception on Wednesday and the chapter networking party on Thursday, which are included with your registration, are the perfect places to get to know your colleagues in relaxed environments. If you are a young professional member, rsvp for the YP networking event on Wednesday after the welcome reception and stop by the YP booth to learn about the various YP engagement programs.
Have Your Agenda Ready
Think about what you want to learn and take away from WASTECON. Then use those goals to create your agenda of must-attend sessions. Another pro-tip: if a session is particulary important to you, snag a seat early. Some rooms will reach capacity and arriving late could mean you won’t get access.
CALLING ALL CONFERENCE VETS
While we put a lot of work into making first-timers comfortable, we still need your help. The best way to do that? If you see a newbie, say hello, introduce them to your fellow colleagues, sit by them in a session or stop by the SWANA lounge. Not only will you help first-timers, but you’ll also grow your own network and likely make a new friend!
