WASTECON 2024
Sustainability & Accessibility
Sustainability
SWANA is partnering with the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, and all of our WASTECON event suppliers, to design an event focused on sustainable practices and resource management. Below are a few of the efforts you will see in practice during WASTECON 2024.
View the Sustainability Practices in Place at the Gaylord Texan.
Reusable Containers – SWANA will provide reusable mugs at all water stations throughout the event space. We also recommend participants bring their own reusable container if preferred.
Biodegradable Cups at Water Stations - Once the reusable containers run out, we will utilize biodegradable cups at water stations which will be processed by Terracycle to ensure responsible processing of the biodegradable material. Be sure to place your used cups in the Terracycle boxes located near the water stations.
Recyclable Badges - All badges and lanyards are recyclable via Terracycle. At the end of WASTECON, if you do not wish to keep your badge, please dispose of it in the Terracycle boxes located at the Registration Desk and outside of the Exhibit Hall.
Event Signage - When possible, the signage you will see at WASTECON was printed on recyclable material.
Meal Functions – All WASTECON meal functions utilize china dishware and glassware instead of single-use items. In the few scenarios where china or glassware is not possible, SWANA strives to utilize compostable materials. This process is in place at both the Gaylord Texan and our evening event venues.
Single-Use Plastic - SWANA works to minimize the use of single-use plastic across our events. You will not see any single-use plastic bottles on our food and beverage stations set-up in the Gaylord Texan. The Gaylord Texan does provide two bottles of water in all guest rooms. Be sure to place these in recycling receptacles if used. If you prefer not to utilize them, you can simply leave them, untouched, in your guest room.
Recycling Receptacles will be available throughout the WASTECON event space. Help us in our sustainable efforts by striving to place your single-use items in the correct receptable.
Group Transportation – if you are arriving to Dallas/Grapevine with other people, please aim to team up on vehicle transfers to the Gaylord Texan or other areas you may visit while attending WASTECON.
Accessibility
SWANA is committed to providing an outstanding experience for all participants. We strive for full access to all WASTECON activities based on an awareness of participants’ needs and appropriate planning. Accessibility accommodations relating to mobility, hearing, vision, or other areas may be provided.
We ask that requests for reasonable accommodations be communicated via the registration process no later than October 4, 2024. Onsite requests will be accommodated to the best of our ability; however, available resources may be limited.
The Gaylord Texan is an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant facility.
