Leadership Intensive: Food Donation & Disposal from Businesses

This workshop will explore trends and pain points for adopting food donation and disposal procedures in commercial food businesses. The presentation builds on hundreds of onsite inspections and technical assistance completed by Solana Center for Environmental Innovation toward compliance with California's state mandate SB 1383, which prohibits all organic material from being landfilled. In addition to in-person inspections of grocery stores, restaurants, schools, wholesalers, events, and commercial kitchens, Solana Center runs a training course for inspectors. This presentation will cover key elements for municipalities to establish their own surplus food reduction, donation, and diversion programs.
