Extended producer responsibility (EPR) is now recognized globally as the most effective waste management strategy, with the ability to substantially decrease the consumption of materials and lower greenhouse gas emissions. This workshop, led by Scott Cassel, CEO and Founder of the Product Stewardship Institute, will cover the definitions of EPR and product stewardship, the basic elements of EPR laws and bills, the roles of key stakeholder groups, and complementary policies. He will also explain the evolution of EPR in the U.S. and how this regulatory approach has been used to enact 135 EPR laws in 33 states on 18 products (including packaging, paint, mattresses, and batteries).
