Managing food waste is a critical priority for municipal solid waste directors. This presentation provides essential strategies and technologies for effective food waste management, and includes a panel discussion with solid waste directors from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Food waste, accounting for over 20% of municipal waste, is a significant target for reduction. Addressing food waste reduces greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with cities' climate action plans. Regulatory pressures are increasing, with nine states implementing food waste collection mandates or landfill bans. Corporations are also focusing on meeting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.
