How Do You Win in Waste Reduction if You Aren't Keeping Score?

Garbage per Capita is an effective metric to increase waste reduction, and is simple to calculate. It has helped cities reduce waste in Texas by up to 18% in five years. So why isn't everyone doing it?

This presentation tracks five cities over five years that created a "friendly competition" to reduce waste. The identification of all waste - residential, commercial and industrial - is a cornerstone of achieving waste reduction goals. One city now generates waste at half the rate of the rest of Texas. Attend this session and learn which city has the lowest garbage per capita and how they did it.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Calculate Garbage per Capita

  • Identify industries that are pivotal to reducing waste

  • Identify barriers to obtaining good data

  • Explore new revenue opportunities as waste is redefined as a resource
