The State of Recycling in America: How Well-Designed Policy Can Help Build a Circular Economy

Eight out of 10 Americans believe in the positive impact of recycling. However, the under-invested and aging recycling system fails to meet the recycling demands and provide robust streams of recycled materials for domestic supply chains. Today, less than a quarter of recyclables are captured in the U.S., with every material being under-recycled, resulting in a massive missed economic opportunity.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify factors resulting in low recycling rates

  • Discuss policies that catalyze improvements to the recycling system
  •   Incorporate learnings into investment and outreach decisions to build public trust in recycling and boost domestic supply of recycled feedstock
