Organics Diversion: How is California Doing?

California's Short Lived Climate Pollutants Act (SB1383) went into effect in 2020 with a goal of reducing organics disposal by 75% in 2025 and recovering 20% of edible food that same year. After almost five years of implementation, this presentation provides an update on how the State is doing regarding its aggressive goals.

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Relate requirements of SB 1383 and how jurisdictions are attempting to meet them.

  • Identify similar opportunities in their communities for the diversion of organics from landfills, including policies, programs and infrastructure.

  • Establish edible food recovery efforts within your own community/company.
