Minnesota is home to a global manufacturing company that, beginning about 70 years ago, produced a group of chemicals resistant to grease, stains, and water: per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Due to the associated waste disposal, drinking water and surface water in the eastern portion of the Twin Cities have been affected. This presentation focuses on the efforts the state has made to prevent contamination, identify potential sources, and manage and clean up any impact.
After attending this session, participants will be able to:
-
Identify the regulatory steps taken to identify potential PFAS impacts at solid waste facilities.
-
Comply with regulatory recommendations made to prevent and manage PFAS in the environment.
-
Discuss solid waste industry concerns and their ideas for PFAS waste management.
