Join us to gain valuable lessons and insights to improve the understanding of recycling in your community. The Residential Recycling Contamination Study is a mixed-method, multi-sited ethnographic research project that examines Texan’s beliefs, attitudes, and practices regarding solid waste and recycling and identifies factors that present barriers and provide incentives for reducing recycling contamination. In collaboration with TxSWANA, our recent study highlights solid waste and recycling competencies - and shortcomings - of single-family residents. This presentation highlights how residents from different cities use digital measures to actively seek municipal recycling information. how household leadership motivates or deters appropriate recycling procedures, and how ethnographic praxis can be a catalyst for socio-technical transformation.
